Hitting net: Jugs Instant net Extremely sturdy, popular, well made hitting net. Here is a virtual goldmine of great hitting drills – they touch on soft-toss at the beginning Here’s a really long video about hitting drills, with some really important points:Ħ:50 incorrect soft toss (into the hitter) Let the player extend his arms and hit the ball in a natural position. Not back at the hands over the plate, not 2 feet in front of the plate. That place is just in front of home plate. As the soft tosser, you’ve got to make sure you put the ball in a position where you want contact happening. The goal isn’t to handcuff your players, or to teach them bad habits. The batter sees the ball and hopefully hits it in front of the plate in a good hitting position. Show the batter the ball, then make a firm and constant underhand toss. ![]() The tosser sits in front and to the side of the player (if they’re a right handed batter, you’d be a few feet down the first base line and in foul territory) and gets ready to underhand toss a ball just in front of home plate. Since the slow-pitch pitch is required to be a soft underhand lob, infielders hesitate to say, Smoke him babe hey low heat hey throw it on the black babe. The goal of soft toss is to mimic a ball crossing into the hitting zone just in front of the plate. It’s easy to set up and can provide valuable swing feedback and instruction. The average salaries are much less than Major League Baseball and players generally earn $5000 - $6000 per year.Soft toss is a great drill that improves hand-eye coordination and helps kids learn the feeling of contact. Professional softball is known as National Pro Fastpitch and is played by women. Major League Baseball is played by men and the salary for the average player is $4 million per year. Professional Salariesīoth baseball and softball can be played professionally but there is a big difference in the salaries on offer. The distance from the home plate to the outfield fence differs too with softball fields usually being no more than 250 yards whilst baseball fields are usually over 300 feet. Although they are laid out in the exact same format, the bases in softball are 60 feet apart whereas baseball bases are 90 feet apart. This can be seen in the distances between the bases. Although the exact sizes can differ somewhat depending upon the player’s ages, softball fields are smaller than those used for baseball. One of the most obvious differences between baseball and softball is the field of play. It is almost unheard of though because pitching overarm or sidearm enables the pitcher to throw with a lot more power and speed. We say ‘almost always’ because there is nothing in the rules stopping a baseball pitcher throwing underhand. In baseball, the pitch is almost always done overhand or sidearm. In softball, the ball has to be thrown underhand. ![]() The actual physical act of pitching is the most noticeable difference. In softball, the ball is pitched from a flat pitching circle that is no more than 43 feet away from the plate. In baseball, the ball is pitched from an elevated mound that is 60-feet away from the plate. This is not surprising when considering softball is played on a smaller field. Pitching is one of the most obvious differences between baseball and softball. This is due to two factors: First off, softball is significantly safer than baseball and other outdoor sports because it is played indoors. Younger softball players may play with a ball that is slightly smaller with a circumference of 10 inches that is easier for small hands to handle. Softball is an underhand sport, thus instead of using a bat to strike the ball, players instead throw it toward the batter. Softballs are much larger with a circumference of 12 inches, are yellow and are much softer (hence the name!). ![]() Ballsīaseballs are white with red stitching and have a circumference of 9 inches. ![]() In softball and amateur baseball, players may use bats made out of wood, metal or various composites but in professional baseball, only wooden bats may be used. Although looking almost identical, bats used in baseball tend to be longer, have a greater diameter and are heavier than those used in softball. ![]()
